GrooVex controls the form (the maximum allowed geometry for groove width, depth, and edge radius) and the function (proper seat in the groove). When used properly by seating the tool in the groove and “scraping” it through, your new grooves will be within .001″ of a new conforming groove. Like with any tool, we can’t control how the tool is used by the owner.

Much of that will depend on how worn the old grooves were prior to re-sharpening. For moderately used grooves, 2-3 “scrapes” or “drags” through each groove will do the trick. The small metal shavings you will see are from the old, worn out and rounded groove edges being re-sharpened to a new .010″ sharp edge radius.

GrooVex is a type of light-scraping tool with origins in the metalworking industry. Moderate pressure (similar to using a golf tee to clean the grooves) is all you will need.
